Addressing COVID-19 Health Disparities

August 14, 2020  |  Best Practice

1. Anticipate Challenges and Prioritizing Health Equity Agenda

Organizations must prioritize health equity now, rather than the end of the year. We must shift from providing clinic site-based support systems and interventions to virtual care and treatment opportunities inside vulnerable communities.

2. Elevate Education and Communication Efforts

We must educate residents on poorer health outcomes faced by marginalized neighborhoods, as well as safe practices using culturally relevant communication.

3. Evaluate Initiatives Recognizing the Power of Innovation

Leveraging technology to identify hot spots and integrate social needs into healthcare systems solutions can target the pandemic and provide care for those it affects most.

4. Broaden and Deepen Community-Based Partnerships

Communities must work with organizations to improve the social determinants of health that exacerbate COVID-19 in low-income families and communities of color.
