COVID-19 and the Latin Community

1. Partner with trusted community gatekeepers

Organizations must partner with community leaders and gatekeepers to ensure people are comfortable with the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine.

2. Establish internal vaccine hesitancy plans

Establishing internal organizational strategies to mitigate vaccine hesitancy within the community will support increased vaccine trust. Internal strategies should include culturally-competent strategies in coordination with community leaders.

3. Connect authentically with the community

Communicating in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual fashion will support authentic connections with the community. Disseminating culturally-competent messages through social media with visual content will support engagement with linguistic minority communities.

4. Prioritize health literacy

Organizations must prioritize health literacy in linguistic minority communities. Utilizing simple terms and key messages, in addition to delivering messages through trusted sources, will support Latin community engagement.

5. Leverage scalable telehealth advancements

Ensuring that telehealth advancements can support third-party translators may decrease rates of linguistic minority community members delaying care. Organizations must ensure that telehealth advancements include translator services and that a scalable strategy is adopted.
