Katrina Agnew

With more than 35 years of experience in hospice and healthcare leadership, Katrina Agnew brings a rare combination of executive expertise, industry knowledge, and heartfelt compassion to her work. Her hospice journey began in 1994 as an Admissions Coordinator and evolved through leadership roles in operations, business development, and sales. Throughout her career, she has successfully led teams and programs across the continuum of care, including oversight of one of the largest hospice organizations in the United States.

Today, Katrina serves as Assistant Vice President of Operations for JourneyCare Hospice, a division of Addus HomeCare, where she provides strategic leadership focused on delivering exceptional, mission-driven care to patients and families. Her commitment to hospice care extends beyond her professional experience. Having personally walked alongside a loved one through hospice, she understands firsthand the profound impact compassionate end-of-life care can have during life's most difficult moments.

A passionate advocate for hospice education, Katrina believes one of the greatest barriers to care is a lack of awareness and understanding. She is dedicated to helping families and healthcare professionals better understand the benefits of hospice and dispelling common misconceptions that often delay access to services.

“Hospice isn’t about giving up. It’s about shifting the focus toward comfort, connection, and peace,” Katrina explains. “So many families tell us, ‘I wish we had called sooner.’ If people fully understood the comfort and support hospice can provide, not only for patients but also for their caregivers, I believe more families would take advantage of these services earlier.”

Katrina also works to educate families about the accessibility of hospice care. Many people assume that the comprehensive support provided by an interdisciplinary hospice team, including nurses, social workers, chaplains, physicians, aides, and volunteers, comes with significant out-of-pocket expense.

“One of the biggest misconceptions about hospice is cost,” she says. “Many families don't realize that hospice is covered through Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Affairs benefits, and many private insurance plans. Understanding that can make an enormous difference when families are deciding whether to seek support.”

Katrina holds a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA), a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), and a Fellowship in Public Health Leadership. While her credentials and accomplishments are extensive, she considers her greatest purpose to be serving patients, families, and caregivers with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Outside of work, Katrina enjoys traveling, participating in mission work, mentoring emerging healthcare leaders, and spending time with her beloved Shih Tzus, Foxie and Zoie.

Through her leadership, vision, and unwavering dedication to the hospice mission, Katrina helps ensure that every patient and family feels seen, supported, and cared for at every step of their journey, while advancing greater understanding of the invaluable role hospice plays in enhancing quality of life.
