Dr. Geraldine Luna

Dr. Geraldine Luna is a double board‑certified geriatrician and internist who has become one of Chicago’s most visible public‑health leaders. A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, she completed internal medicine and geriatrics residencies at the University of Michigan. As Medical Director for the Chicago Department of Public Health’s COVID‑19 response, Luna coordinated testing, vaccination and treatment strategies for vulnerable populations, emphasizing culturally informed outreach in Black and Latino communities. She is vice president of the Medical Organization for Latino Advancement (MOLA) and serves as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where she mentors medical students and residents. Luna is an advocate for health‑literacy initiatives, co‑founding the Illinois Unidos Partnership to address COVID‑19 disparities and joining the People’s Response Network to support mutual‑aid efforts. She has been recognized as a “Health Hero” by the Chicago Latino Network and regularly appears on Spanish‑language media to educate the public about chronic‑disease management, vaccine safety and elder care. Luna’s research interests include frailty in minority seniors and the intersection of aging and infectious diseases.
