Alderman Lamont Robinson

Lamont J. Robinson has built his career at the intersection of business, education, and public service, always with a focus on giving back to the city that raised him. A lifelong Chicagoan, Robinson earned his undergraduate degree in business marketing from Clark Atlanta University and an MBA from National Louis University before becoming an entrepreneur, educator, and mentor. He founded and operated The Robinson & Caban Insurance Group, taught business at Harold Washington College, and led the Kappa Leadership Institute, where he helped prepare young men for college and professional success.

In 2018, Robinson made history as the first openly gay African American elected to the Illinois General Assembly, representing the 5th District in the State House. During his time in Springfield, he championed critical investments in infrastructure, social services, and economic development while gaining deep experience in how government can deliver meaningful change for communities.

Now serving as Alderman of Chicago’s 4th Ward, Robinson is committed to strengthening city services, advancing equitable development, and improving public safety. He envisions a ward where responsive government, vibrant neighborhoods, and opportunity for all residents come together to create a stronger, more inclusive Chicago. Guided by collaboration with neighbors, community organizations, and civic leaders, Robinson continues his lifelong mission to build pathways of success and ensure every resident has the chance to thrive.
