Alderman Lamont Robinson
Lamont Robinson is an entrepreneur, educator and trailblazing public servant representing Chicago’s 4th Ward on the City Council. Before his election as alderman in 2023, Robinson spent four years as state representative for Illinois’ 5th House District, where he advocated for small business development, expansion of the state’s minority business‑enterprise program and investments in historically Black colleges and universities. Robinson is the first openly LGBTQ African‑American to serve in the Illinois General Assembly and has been a leading voice on LGBTQ‑inclusive health coverage and anti‑discrimination protections. A graduate of Clark Atlanta University (BBA in management) and National Louis University (MBA), he owns two Allstate insurance agencies in Bronzeville and Chatham. Robinson has taught risk management and entrepreneurship at City Colleges of Chicago and has served on boards including the Community Renewal Society, AIDS Foundation Chicago and the Illinois Council on Aging. As alderman he prioritizes affordable housing, violence reduction and equitable development; he brokered community benefits agreements for the proposed Bronzeville Lakefront project and chairs the City Council’s Small Business Subcommittee.
